Meema story: peek inside

Narration: The story begins with Dorothy. <break time="2s"/> Dorothy lived on a farm in Kansas with her Auntie Em and Uncle Henry. <break time="2s"/> It wasn't easy during the Depression. She often had chores to do. <break time="3s"/>

Narration: Everyone else was so busy and serious all the time. <break time="2s"/> Dorothy and Toto were often on their own.

Narration: Miss Almira Gulch was a neighbor. <break time="2s"/> She was not particularly fond of dogs. Or little girls either. <break time="2s"/> What was she going to do to Toto! <break time="3s"/>

Narration: Dorothy had real problems and none of the adults in her life seemed to care. <break time="2s"/> She used to dream about running away from her troubles.

Narration: What would you like to talk about.

Narration: After being struck and then picked up by the storm, Dorothy awakes in Munchkin Land. <break time="2s"/>

Narration: There, she meets Glinda, the Good Witch. <break time="2s"/>

Narration: The Wicked Witch of the West appears too. She was furious with Dorothy for killing her sister, the Wicked Witch of the East. <break time="2s"/> As if the storm and munchkins weren't upsetting enough. This scene is terrifying! <break time="2s"/> Dorothy is ready to go home. <break time="2s"/>

Narration: The Good Witch explains that the Wizard of Oz can help her get back to Kansas. <break time="2s"/> All she has to do is follow the Yellow Brick Road to find the Wizard. <break time="2s"/> Her first steps are tentative. <break time="1s"/> Such a long trip, all alone, in such a strange land. <break time="2s"/>

Narration: But the Munchkins encourage her. <break time="2s"/> She gains confidence as she starts to walk. Then she skips. <break time="2s"/> She's off to see the Wizard. <break time="2s"/>
